Bankroll Management
The Discipline Behind Third Half Club
At Third Half Club, bankroll management is not an optional extra. It is the foundation of everything we do.
Before we ever place a selection, we study the card of the day. We look for value, not just obvious favourites. A separate article will explain how we define a Value Bet, but the principle is simple: we are not trying to predict every result. We are trying to find situations where the price offered is better than the true probability of the outcome.
Once we identify those opportunities, the next step is just as important: deciding how much of the bankroll should be risked.
That is where discipline starts.
The Third Half Club Bankroll Principle
Our reference bankroll on the website is £1,000.
Every selection is classified into one of three categories:
CategoryMeaningStake Range
AStrong pick with a high probability of occurrence4–5% of bankroll
BMore risk, but still offering strong value3–4% of bankroll
COpportunity, angle, or fun selectionLess than 3% of bankroll
This structure gives every prediction a clear risk level before emotion gets involved.
We do not increase stakes because we “feel confident”.
We do not chase losses.
We do not overreact to one good or bad day.
The category decides the stake. The system comes first.
Example Using a £1,000 Bankroll
Check our Bankroll here: Third Half Club Bankroll
With a £1,000 bankroll, the staking structure is simple:
Category A — Strong Pick
A-rated selections are our strongest positions.
These are picks where the analysis, price, probability and match context all support the same conclusion.
On a £1,000 bankroll:
-
4% stake = £40
-
5% stake = £50
We never go above 5% on one single selection, even if the pick looks extremely strong.
This protects the bankroll from overconfidence.
Category B — Value With More Risk
B-rated selections still offer value, but they carry more uncertainty.
This could be because the market is more volatile, the outcome depends on a player action, or the match scenario is less predictable.
On a £1,000 bankroll:
-
3% stake = £30
-
4% stake = £40
These are serious selections, but they are not treated like A-rated picks.
Category C — Opportunities and Fun Bets
C-rated selections are lower exposure.
These can include bigger prices, tactical angles, player markets, or opportunities where we see logic but accept that the risk is higher.
On a £1,000 bankroll:
-
1% stake = £10
-
2% stake = £20
-
Less than 3% = maximum £29.99
Category C is where discipline matters most. These selections can be tempting because the return may look attractive, but the risk is higher. That is why the stake must stay controlled.
Our Maximum Exposure Rules
Bankroll management is not only about individual selections. It is also about protecting the full day, the full week, and the long-term strategy.
At Third Half Club, we follow these rules:
1. Never Risk More Than 5% on One Single Bet
No matter how strong the pick looks, the maximum exposure on one selection is 5% of the bankroll.
With a £1,000 bankroll, that means:
-
Maximum single stake: £50
This rule prevents one result from damaging the overall strategy.
2. Normal Daily Exposure: Maximum 10%
On a normal day, we do not want total exposure to exceed 10% of the bankroll.
With a £1,000 bankroll:
-
Maximum normal daily exposure: £100
Example:
-
A Pick: £50
-
B Pick: £35
-
C Pick: £15
Total daily exposure: £100
That is enough to attack a good card, but still controlled enough to protect the bankroll if results go against us.
3. Big Card Exception: 12–15%
On rare days, when the card is particularly strong, we may allow exposure between 12% and 15%.
With a £1,000 bankroll:
-
12% exposure = £120
-
15% exposure = £150
This is not a daily target. It is an exception.
A big card does not mean many matches are available. It means we have several selections that genuinely meet our criteria.
More games does not automatically mean more value.
4. Maximum Daily Loss: 10%
The maximum loss we accept in one day is 10% of the bankroll.
With a £1,000 bankroll:
-
Maximum daily loss: £100
Once that limit is reached, the day is over.
No chasing.
No live overreaction.
No “one more bet to recover”.
The best decision after a bad day is often to stop.
5. 20% Drawdown Rule: Mandatory Break
If the bankroll loses 20% of the initial balance, we take a break for a few days.
With a £1,000 starting bankroll:
-
20% drawdown = £200
-
Break point = £800
If the bankroll drops to £800, the system pauses.
The reason is simple: when the bankroll is under pressure, emotions become stronger. Decisions become less objective. A short break protects both the bankroll and the mindset.
The goal is not to be active every day.
The goal is to remain disciplined long enough for the edge to show.
Why We Track Every Bet
Every Third Half Club selection is tracked daily on the website.
This is essential.
Without tracking, there is no accountability. Without accountability, there is no real strategy.
Tracking allows us to measure:
-
Total profit and loss
-
Return on investment
-
Strike rate
-
Performance by category: A, B and C
-
Daily exposure
-
Losing runs
-
Whether the staking plan is being respected
-
It also helps us understand where the value really is.
For example, if A-rated selections are consistently profitable but C-rated selections are damaging performance, the data will show it. If certain markets perform better than others, the data will show it. If we are taking too much exposure on weaker cards, the data will show it.
This removes emotion from the process.
A good betting strategy is not judged by one result. It is judged over time, with data.
Discipline Over Emotion
Most people lose control because they think only about the next result.
At Third Half Club, we think about the full bankroll.
One loss does not change the method.
One win does not make us invincible.
One bad day does not justify chasing.
One strong day does not justify reckless staking.
The process has to stay the same.
That is why every selection is classified before it is staked. A, B or C. Clear category. Clear exposure. Clear risk.
The bankroll is there to protect the long-term strategy.
Final Word
Bankroll management is not about being defensive. It is about being professional.
We study the card.
We look for value.
We classify the opportunity.
We stake according to the system.
We track everything.
That is the Third Half Club approach.
The aim is not to bet more.
The aim is to bet better.
Analyse first. Stake with discipline. Protect the bankroll.
18+ only. Betting involves risk. Never stake money you cannot afford to lose.
